Symposium will feature top scientists
The forum, which runs Monday and Tuesday, is organized by Molecular Frontiers, a Swedish nonprofit, and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and will cover topics related to biomedical engineering, bioinformatics and bioprotective compounds.
Molecular Frontiers is dedicated to promoting molecular science and technology, specifically among young people. This week’s symposium also features students from around the world, who will discuss modern applications of chemistry and global scientific challenges.
Students from three Korean high schools will hold a panel discussion during the event, while young people from Ethiopia, Nigeria and Myanmar are also slated to attend. This is the second time the symposium, started in 2006, will be hosted in Asia. Nanyang Technological University in Singapore hosted the event in 2012.
The laureates in attendance include Israeli-American biochemist Arieh Warshel, winner of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Chemistry; English biochemist and molecular biologist Richard Roberts, winner of the 1993 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine; American biologist Andrew Fire, winner of the 2006 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine; and Israeli scientist Ada Yonath, winner of the 2009 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
Other distinguished speakers include Professor Robert Langer, of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, chemist C.N.R. Rao, and Bertil Andersson, the president of Nanyang Technological University.
The event is free and open to everyone. The lectures will include question and answer sessions.
