‘Spider-Man’ swings to top in Korea
Amid national mourning over the Sewol tragedy, Korea found comfort in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” The total revenue in the Korean box office doubled from last week, reaching more than 15.2 billion won ($14 million).According to the Korean Film Council, the Marvel superhero action film “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” won more than one million viewer admissions on 1,312 screens nationwide, occupying 72.5 percent of all viewers over the weekend. The film brought in 14 billion won ($13 million) within five days of release.
DreamWorks’ animated feature film “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” debuted with 126,796 admissions on 533 screens.
And “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” took the No. 3 spot, winning 107,134 more viewers on 369 screens. So far, the film has brought in 3.8 million viewers, making 31 billion won, or $29 million. The thriller “Broken” dropped down to fourth, with 87,281 admissions on 374 screens. The Hollywood sci-fi action film “Divergent” came in at No. 5 with 58,583 viewers on 336 screens.
