Hyun Bin’s ‘Fatal Encounter’ a box-office winner

Even after harsh ratings from film critics, Hyun Bin’s latest film “The Fatal Encounter” dominated the Korean box office over the weekend. The film, which marked the No. 1 slot for two consecutive weeks, earned 581,028 viewers during the weekend. Total admissions passed 3.2 million as of Sunday, according to the Korean Film Council.

Another local film released on the same day, “The Target,” finished second, earning 553,400 admissions. Based on the French film “Point Blank,” the film follows the story of a man falsely accused of being a murderer. The film had two million viewers from 716 screens nationwide. “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” slipped to third, gaining 346,254 admissions from 687 screens. It made 33 billion won ($32 million) from its April 23 release. Animated feature film “Rio 2” won 104,600 admissions and was in fourth place. No. 5 was “Last Vegas,” starring Hollywood legends Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Michael Douglas and Kevin Kline. It totaled 90,536 admissions.
