July 29,2014
After weeks of Hollywood movies reaching the top of the local box office, a Korean film finally became the most popular movie in the country over the weekend.

“Kundo: Age of the Rampant,” which opened Wednesday, took 61.5 percent of ticket shares from Friday to Sunday, according to the Korean Film Council.

The movie, which features many top movie stars in Korea, including actor Ha Jung-woo of “The Terror Live” and Gang Dong-won of “Romance of Their Own,” is a period film based in the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).

The animated movie “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” which opened the same day as “Kundo,” came in second on the local chart.

Another Hollywood film, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” garnered 9.1 percent of the ticket share over the weekend to come in third while actor Jung Woo-sung’s “The Divine Move” attracted an audience of almost 120,000.

Horror movie “Ju-On: The Beginning of the End” brought in almost 30,000 theatergoers while “Transformers: Age of Extinction” followed closely with a little more than 23,000 people. French movie “Frances Ha” came in seventh place, making more than 93 million won ($90,582) over the weekend.
