‘Admiral’ to be released in China

Based on its tremendous popularity here, period film “The Admiral: Roaring Currents” will be released at about 3,000 movie theaters in China within this year, according to CJ E&M.

According to the entertainment company, the Chinese version of the period film will be about 20 minutes shorter than the Korean movie and its title will be “Myeongnyang Naval Battle.”

Centered on the historic Battle of Myeongnyang in 1597, where Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) Admiral Yi Sun-sin faced hundreds of Japanese warships with just 12 vessels under his command, the film attracted more than 10 million moviegoers in Korea alone earlier this year.

“Many Chinese are aware of the Battle of Noryang in which Admiral Yi and the Ming Dynasty joined forces. Chinese moviegoers are also curious to know about this film,” said Lee Ki-yeon, who leads the Chinese investment team in CJ E&M’s film business department, in a press release.

“The Admiral” has been released in Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines so far.
