Jewelry’s Ha announces departure

Ha Ju-yeon, a member of Jewelry, announced her departure from the girl group - probably the longest-running in Korea - on Wednesday.

“Since my contract with Star Empire [Ha’s agency] has expired, I became ordinary Ha Ju-yeon, not a member of Jewelry,” the 28-year-old singer wrote on her Twitter account.

“I’m currently taking time to study more about music. I appreciate your support and love.”

With the departure of Ha, only two members - Kim Ye-won and Park Se-mi - are left in the four-member girl group.

Prior to Ha’s walkout, Kim Eun-jeong also left the girl group earlier this year.

The girl group formed in 2001 and has produced many stars, such as Seo In-young and Park Jung-ah.

The group is one of a few that has been performing for more than 13 years in a row, despite the fact that all members of the original lineup have left the group.

With the continuing departure of its members, industry insiders and fans are concerned about a possible breakup.

But Star Empire, the agency of Jewelry, said, “Nothing has been decided about the group’s future.”
