DDP celebrates its 1st anniversary
The exhibition, “Heartwarming 36.5 Degrees Design,” includes a range of contrasting items, from ergonomically designed plates for people with physical disabilities to handcrafted bags from Africa.
Eun Byung-soo, the exhibition’s artistic director, says visitors can discover the value of outer and inner beauty in the coexistence of objects and people that are distinctly different while at the show.
The main objective of the exhibition was “zero waste.”
As a result, Italian architects Simone Carena and Marco Bruno, who acted as consultants for the show, came up with the idea of using large, reusable wooden bobbins to display pieces on.
“How to manage the space with this topic seemed like an impossible task because we had to use material that was zero waste, that was ecological and friendly with the old, the young and the children,” said Carena.
“We found this bobbin structure. We ordered directly from the company and we are going to return them after the exhibition. So it’s zero waste.”
The bobbins, which are usually used to wrap wire around at construction and shipping companies, also acts as chairs and tables at the exhibition.
“It’s not so much a design thing because it’s something that already exists,” said Carena.
“But it’s finding it and combining it in a clever way.”
The exhibition continues until May 24. Tickets are priced at 8,000 won ($7.23).
