DELECTABLE BUSAN: The perfect eateries for a year-end gathering

It seems that time has passed by with a blink of an eye and it's that time of the year again to celebrate Christmas and New Year's, when families, lovers and friends gather together to enjoy fine food and one another's company.

Here are a few of the city's eateries to choose from this holiday season.

Smoke House

This is a perfect gastropub for year-end parties, offering delectable grub and a friendly dining atmosphere.

Smoke House specializes in Texas-style barbecue and craft beer.

Located on the first floor of Pale de CZ, near Haeundae, space is moderate but this place is always fully booked - even the terrace tables.

Smoke House serves up great eats that cater to expats' tastes as well as some fantastic views.

Despite its short history, it has already become a popular haunt among many locals drawn by its reputation.

Its signature menu includes brisket, pulled pork, ribs, macaroni and cheese, baked barbecue beans and mashed potatoes.

As the name of this restaurant suggests, Smoke House's staple is authentic southern-style barbecue, where the meat is smoked for 14 hours.

The star dish is the Dinner Sampler Set, which comes with smoked beef, chicken and pork with a side of potato salad, available after 6 p.m. Patrons have the option to pair their dishes with craft beer produced by Galmegi Brewing. The rich smoky flavor coupled with the tenderness of the meat is a sure bet for any diner with discriminating tastes.

Fingers and Chat

Fantastic night views await at The Bay 101, another good contender for year-end soirees.

Located between Haeundae Beach and Dongbaekseom Island, it's touted as one of the top venues in Busan for nightscapes. People from all over the country come here.

There are a few dining options within The Bay 101 building, but among them, the gastropub Fingers and Chat offers an array of anju (side dish) menus and beers. Its hottest selling item is the fish and chips. White sea bass and sliced potatoes are fried until they're crisp and tender. The most coveted seats are by the windows, where enchanting ocean views await.

The yacht club, the Marine City skyscrapers and the city's colorful neon signs reflected against the ocean create a stunning visual.

HQ Bar

Step foot into HQ Bar in Gwangalli and you may feel like you're not in Korea but in a foreign country.

That's because this place is filled with expatriates, with Korean customers few and far between.

Its appeal can easily be explained - ceiling-to-floor windows that overlook Gwangalli Beach and mouth-watering appetizers like chicken wings and quesadillas.

A whole gamut of drinks is on offer, including craft beer, whisky and cocktails, all of which go well with pub grub.

The bar sets itself apart from the rest, offering live musical performances by bands.

Here, patrons can enjoy shows by Busan-based musicians as well as stand-up comedy.

Live rock bands will be playing at the end of the year to boost the festive mood. HQ plans to have a special raffle event for some bottle prizes.

Plus, all customers who stay up late night there can sample free tteokguk, or rice-cake soup. It is traditional Korean fare enjoyed for many years on New Year's Day.

The bar will offer special drinks including bottles of sangria or champagne and discounts on all beer pitchers.
