Referred to as Korea’s first interactive air show, Gyeonggi Suwon Airshow 2016 will take place at the Suwon Airfield for two days from May 7-8. [Gyeonggi Tourism Organization]

In collaboration with the Korean Air Force, Suwon will host “Gyeonggi Suwon Airshow 2016” at the Suwon Airfield from May 7 to 8. Since its launch in 2009, the show has only seen continued growth, attracting over half a million visitors during the 2013 Gyeonggi Airshow held in Ansan.

Determining that such robust growth reflects growing public interest in aviation, Suwon has redesigned this year’s show as a festival suitable for couples and families.

Without a doubt, the show’s highlights are its aerobatic displays, flight demonstrations and ground exhibitions. Aerobatics will be performed by two private air-show teams and the 53rd Air Demonstration Group. Nicknamed the Black Eagles, the team will perform four times throughout the event. Its distinctly colored aircraft are equipped with an internal smoke system that leaves thick trails in the sky.

This, coupled with the grandeur and sophistication of its formations, make for a thrilling experience for spectators of all ages.

Aside from the aerial performances, the show offers other on-site attractions, including a science exhibition, flight simulators, competitions and an aircraft boarding program. Visitors can also take part in a rescue experience program in which they can learn how to prepare for emergency situations. Gyeonggi Suwon Airshow is confident that its various interactive programs are what set it apart from existing observation-based air fairs.

Suwon’s primary concern is ensuring that spectators and aviators are safe throughout the event. To maintain order at the air show, the city plans to use 100 local volunteers alongside 50 specially designated patrols at the airfield on each day of the event. Volunteers will receive training beforehand and can be reached at booths located within the venue. Eighty verified drivers will also be present to direct nearby traffic.
