Streak continues as Orioles’ Kim makes base in 8th game

Kim Hyun-soo of Baltimore Orioles continued his run in the Major League Baseball (MLB), getting to the base for the eighth game in a row.

As second batter for the Orioles playing left field, Kim went 3-for-5 on Thursday against the Boston Red Sox at Oriole Park in Baltimore’s Camden Yards, including one base-on-ball and two runs scored.

His first hit came at the bottom of first inning when he singled on a ground ball to the right field off Red Sox Joe Kelly’s 96-mile-per-hour two seam fastball. Kim drove home three plays later when Orioles’ Mark Trumbo hit a single. During his second at-bat in the second inning, Kim belted a double and sent Adam Jones to the third. He couldn’t drive a run home in the second inning. Kim’s third hit of the day came in the seventh inning when he drove a single to the right. Four plays later, when Matt Wieters hit a single, Kim drove home to tally his second run-scored of the day.

After his brilliant showing on Thursday, his batting average increased slightly to .382. The Orioles topped the Red Sox 13-9.

Belgium barely avoids huge upset ahead of Euro 2016

BRUSSELS - Romelu Lukaku scored two minutes from time to give a dominating Belgium only a 1-1 draw against Finland and avoid a major upset ahead of the European Championship.

After relentless attacking to avoid a humiliating home defeat, Dries Mertens sent a in a cross that finally fooled standout goalie Lukas Hradecky, who could slap the ball only onto the chest of Lukaku right on the line.

Earlier, sloppy defending by Thomas Vermaelen and Axel Witsel in the 53rd minute allowed Kasper Hamalainen to sneak through the center to latch on to a cross and easily beat goalkeeper Thibault Courtois.

“We should have won today, so it is up to us to learn from this,” said Lukaku, who was supposed to rest Wednesday and was only brought on to avoid an embarrassing defeat.

Belgium experimented in attack and defense. Coach Marc Wilmots started with Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi as center forward and he came no closer to scoring than heading a cross onto the post in the 38th minute.
