Kapoor show twists reality

Renowned Indian-born British artist Anish Kapoor stands between the stainless steel sculptures of his “Non-Object (Triangle Twist)” series on view at K3 Space in the Kukje Gallery in central Seoul. They are part of his solo show “Gathering Clouds,” which runs through Oct. 30. [KUKJE GALLERY]

What happens when a solid stainless steel sculpture in the form of a mirrored square pole is twisted? The geometry is not the only thing that gets distorted. The reflections of the viewers on the surfaces are also distorted and pop up at unexpected places, which causes confusion in perception particularly in the boundaries between the sculpture and the surrounding space.

It is one of the recent experiments by world-renowned artist Anish Kapoor. The experiment, visualized into his sculpture series “Non-Object (Triangle Twist),” is now on view at Kukje Gallery in central Seoul as part of his solo show titled “Gathering Clouds.”

“It is an experiment about how a simple twist, or a simple gesture, brings about a shift in perception and a shift in space,” the Indian-born British artist told the press at the gallery a month ago.
