Marriott International has appointed a new general manager for the Courtyard Marriott Seoul Namdaemun, which opened in central Seoul in 2016.

Christopher Johns, who spent three years as a hotel manager at the JW Marriott Hotel in Bangkok, came back to Korea to help lead the relatively new hotel in the capital.

He previously worked in Korea for two years and three months as a food and beverage director at the Renaissance Seoul Hotel until 2011. Johns, who is in the general manager position for the first time in his career, also has experience working in Hong Kong, Australia, and Florida in the United States.

“I’m happy to be joining Courtyard Marriott Seoul Namdaemun as the general manager on the very first day of 2018, a great start to the year,” said Johns in a release.

“I will leverage the strength of the Courtyard brand to provide engaged hospitality to our domestic and international guests, further establishing our foothold in the Seoul market.”

The international hotel chain plans to open five new hotels this year in Korea. It opened the Jeju Shinhwa World Marriott Resort last month in Jeju Island.
