The 2018 PyeongChang Olympics are offering a special collection of moon jars that celebrates 94 years of Winter Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) began an Olympic heritage program last year to promote the values of the Olympics in cultural, artistic and social aspects and to preserve the intellectual property of the designs of posters, emblems, mascots and pictograms. All products are given official license.

In the past, there were several types of merchandise that used the 1988 Seoul Olympic as a motif. But the moon jar edition is proud to be the first heritage collection that depicts all past winter Olympics.

As an artifact that represents the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), the white moon jar symbolizes hope. This round jar symbolizes a full moon, abundance and richness.

The 2018 Moon Jar Edition was inspired by National Treasure No. 262.

The jars in the limited edition will be smaller than standard moon jars, with lengths and width of 7 centimeters (2.76 inches). On the jars, representations of the past 22 winter Olympics from the Chamonix 1924 Winter Olympics to the Games in Sochi in 2014 are depicted.

In total are 24 jars including one representing the Olympic heritage in general and another that portrays Korea’s hopes for a successful event in Pyeongchang. All of the illustrations were approved by the IOC, and show historical scenes related to the Olympics. For instance, how the torch relay began and the characteristics of the cities that held Olympics are depicted on the mini-jars.

The third Winter Olympics in 1932 were held in Lake Placid, a small city in upper New York State. Its jar shows a three-level podium that debuted there and has been used ever since. In the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympics held in Germany in 1936, the torch blazed around the clock during the Olympics period for the first time. Considered one of the great Winter Olympics, a?lpine skiing was introduced at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The 15th Games held in Calgary, Canada in 1988, the Olympics were extended to 16 days, including three weekends. Jamaica, an island in the Caribbean Sea, participated at the Winter Olympics for the first time in the bobsled competition. Although the team didn’t win, the athletes’ passion inspired the movie “Cool Runnings” (1993).

To commemorate the PyeongChang Olympics, only 2,018 sets of the 2018 Moon Jar Edition are being sold around the world. Each of the sets will have a unique serial number.

Hoon Kang, founder and CEO of Wagti, the sports marketing company that was awarded the official IOC license to make the merchandise, said, “I am so happy that the first series of Olympic heritage collection are presented in Korea.” The company was selected because it planned and suggested the 2018 Moon Jar Edition.

“We tried to put the 94 years of Winter Olympics in the collection along with the beauty of Korean traditions,” he said.

The price of the edition is 1,750,000 won ($ 1,644). For more information visit wagti.com. Offline sales are available at Art Cube of Gallery Hyundai in central Seoul, Gallery YEH and Print Bakery of Goyang Star Field of Gyeonggi.
