The Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Foundation has significantly enhanced creativity in elementary schools to foster an imaginative and inventive generation ready for the upcoming fourth industrial revolution.

The foundation has been operating various educational programs at 100 elementary schools in rural farming communities since 2012. The program, called “On Dream School,” has provided opportunities for about 7,000 children to receive customized education.

This year it is working to develop education based on building character. The foundation will develop educational materials based on this theme and deliver them to schools.

The main goal is to develop “the right leader with the right characteristics” through specialized programs. The foundation expects the fourth industrial revolution to bring rapid changes to society, and is determined to prepare children for that future.

The foundation selected 10 schools in rural communities for the program, working to encourage synergy not only for students but also teachers.

Students are offered classes on creativity, vision, art, music, acting, gym and future as part of the “Future Talent Nurturing” program. In the past, two programs were operated in each school to make the program available to more students, but the ten specialized schools will each offer more classes to enhance the student experience.

Furthermore, programs to foster characteristics and creative arts will be held to strengthen creativity and personality training. The foundation will fully support the selected schools to manage the training programs.

In order to develop the new approach to education, the foundation conducted research into leading educational organizations and research centers and came up with a list of 24 crucial skills. The major capabilities were creativity, personality, convergence ability, cooperation and communication.

The foundation developed Future Talent Nurturing with its own creative educational materials. The aim of the class is to provide a place where students can think and act independently.

The foundation will provide all of the necessary resources including materials, teaching aids and professional teachers.

“The education needs for schools and students in the future will be fulfilled by the successful operation of character education starting this year. We will do our best to be known as the foundation of creative talents in the future,” said an official from the foundation.

The On Dream School program is based on Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Mong-koo’s ideology of creating a healthy society through strong education and developing the next generation who will be the leaders of the future.
