Lufthansa Group signs deal to sell flight tickets on Kakao

Lufthansa Group has partnered with Korea’s dominant chat-app service provider Kakao to sell its tickets through the mobile app, the airline said Monday.

The group - encompassing Lufthansa German Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines and Austrian Airlines - is the first airline to sell tickets directly through the Kakao platform.

The chat-app operator upgraded its flight booking and payment system last month and established the “Airline ticket by Kakao” service in hand with its affiliated search engine Daum Mobile. The platform, scheduled to be added as an in-app service to KakaoTalk soon, offers flight tickets from 12 partnering travel agencies

Now with Lufthansa becoming a direct seller on the Kakao platform, the airline will not only offer ticket rates but details about in-flight meals and paid-services, like in-flight internet packages.

The airline will also be able to sell different paid services through Kakao. The airline group is currently preparing to begin sales on the Kakao app.
