The Asia Water Council (AWC), the biggest international water conference, will hold its sixth committee meeting from May 24 to 26 in Bangkok. The AWC was established in March 2016 mainly by the Korean government and K-water to solve worldwide water problems.

The members are 130 organizations in 26 countries, such as international organizations, including the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Asian Development Bank, and civil companies from Asian countries such as Thailand, China and Indonesia.

This committee meeting will begin with the AWC chairman and vice chairman conference on May 24, a special session on six topics including smart water management and water and climate change on May 25, and a discussion of the committee’s agenda on May 26. The committee will discuss its Water Project for water issues in Asian countries, including Cambodia’s water supply and Vietnam’s smart water management. The AWC’s 2020 Second Asia International Water Week’s (AIWW) progression and a demonstration of member organizations’ research and business projects will also be a topic of the discussion.

A book containing the results of the first AIWW, held last September in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang, was published and will contribute to the growing profile of the AIWW and Asia water issues. K-water will help with the cooperation of the development of the Asian water industry through this committee, and it will also seek ways to widen the water industry overseas.

“We will make sure that not only will Asian water issues be solved, but employment in the water industry will also be expanded through the AWC platform,” said Lee Hak-su, CEO of K-water.
