Kang Seong-ju, director of the state-run Korea Post, stressed the role of the global postal service in an age when e-commerce is taking on an increasingly important logistics role during a Kahala Posts Group (KPG) meeting in Gold Coast, Australia.

Kang was one of 11 representatives of member nations of the international postal alliance present at the meeting. Representatives discussed the implementation of express mail services (EMS) and new product development.

During the meeting, the members agreed to increase the availability of express mail services for smaller packages to help support the growing e-commerce industry and to broaden the level of customs clearance information exchange between members to 80 percent by 2021.

Moreover, the members also shared innovative ways to cope with global environmental changes and discussed their future vision.

Kang explained Korea’s use of artificial intelligence, drones and big data to improve efficiency.

He also emphasized that the international postal network is becoming important due to activated e-commerce and that the post office is an infrastructure performing the role of a public good.

Meanwhile, Korea Post signed a memorandum of understanding with Australia. Both countries have decided to enhance cooperation and link e-commerce to share innovative cases using fourth industrial technology and create postal business profits.
