Fans have mixed reaction to Sunye’s return

Sunye, the former leader of the girl group Wonder Girls, who left the group in 2013 after getting married, is reportedly returning to the entertainment industry, but people had mixed responses to the news on social media on Wednesday.

Entertainment agency Polaris Entertainment told local media outlet OSEN that they are “having positive discussions” regarding a contract with Sunye, but “it has not been finalized yet.”

Fans online, who have been split about the potential return, are asking why she would want to be a singer again after leaving the Wonder Girls so suddenly in 2013, while others fully supported her return. Some critical posts read, “I don’t understand why she wants to come back and be a celebrity when she disappeared while Wonder Girls were at the height of their [fame],” and “She leaves as she likes and comes back as she likes.”

Sunye made her debut as part of the Wonder Girls in 2007. Their biggest hits were “Tell Me” (2007), “So Hot” (2008), “Nobody” (2008) and “Be My Baby” (2011).

After leaving the entertainment business in 2013, Sunye appeared on TV for the first time in 2017 on the JTBC reality program “Stranger,” where she talked about her life as a wife and a mother of two living in Canada.
