[Treasure] Joseon Dynasty government records revealed

테스트

Name: Bibyeonsa deungnok (Records of the Border Defense Council)
Period: Late Joseon Dynasty
Location: Gwanak District, southern Seoul
Status: National Treasure No. 152

These volumes are a collection of authentic records from the meetings of the Chief Council of State, or Bibyeonsa, since the middle of the Joseon Dynasty.

They are regarded as one of the most crucial Korean historical records, together with the Diary of the Royal Secretariat, Seungjeongwon Ilgi and Ilseongnok.

Generally, one volume was written per year, but two or even three volumes were produced during turbulent years.

The number of existing volumes amounts to 273 in total, covering a 275-year period between 1617 (the ninth year of King Gwanghaegun’s rule) and 1892 (the 29th year of King Gojong’s rule).

To restore its original name and function, Bibyeonsa was abolished in the second year of King Gojong’s rule and its role was taken over by Uijeongbu, which continued to keep records under the same organizational structure.

The existing volumes of this Bibyeonsa Deungnok have some missing parts.

It’s practically impossible to determine the original number of pages or how many pages are missing, as notes with only the publication year have been inserted between the pages.
