Global rout hits Kospi, Kosdaq and the won

Korean equity and currency markets nosedived Thursday with the main Kospi bourse seeing its largest drop in seven years, taking a negative cue from Wall Street the day before.

하루 전 미국 월가 주식 폭락 영향을 받은 한국 주식시장과 외환시장이 목요일 큰 폭으로 하락했다. 코스피는 7년만에 최대규모로 하락했다.
Major U.S. market indexes, including the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500, lost more than 3 percent as worries about rising interest rates and the U.S.-China trade war spooked investors.

금리인상과 미중 무역전쟁에 겁을 먹은 투자자들이 주식 투매를 하면서 다우존스 산업평균지수와 S&P 500 등 미국의 주요 증시 지수는 3% 이상 하락했다.
The Korean indices - the Kospi and the tech-focused Kosdaq - fell even further. The main bourse fell 4.44 percent to reach 2,129.67, the lowest closing level since April 2017. The Kosdaq plunged 5.37 percent to reach 707.38.

코스피와 코스닥 등 한국 증시 지수들은 더 많이 떨어졌다. 코스피는 4.44% 하락하면서 2,129.67로 내려앉았다. 2017년 4월 이후 최저 마감 지수이다. 코스닥은 5.37% 폭락해 707.38로 마감했다.
The Korean won also hit this year’s lowest level at 1,144.4 won against the U.S. dollar, up 10 won or 0.9 percent from the previous trading session.

원달러 환율도 1,144.4원까지 올라 원화가치가 최저로 떨어졌다. 전날 외환거래 때보다 10원(0.9%) 평가절하됐다.
The benchmark Kospi and the junior Kosdaq have been on losing streaks for eight consecutive trading days with uncertainties outside of Korea dampening investor sentiment.

대외시장의 불확실성이 투자심리를 위축시키면서 코스피와 코스닥은 거래일 기준 8일 연속으로 하락세를 이어갔다.
“Different factors play into the drop,” said You Seung-min, an analyst at Samsung Securities. “First, it is the rising U.S. Treasury bonds’ yield rates and renewed possibility of inflation affected by increasing oil prices. Then there’s trade tension between the United States and China and worries over weak performances of tech stocks.”

삼성증권 유승민 애널리스트는 “증시 폭락에 여러 가지 다른 요인들이 작용했다. 우선 미 재무부 채권이자율이 오르고 있고 유가 상승에 따른 물가상승 가능성이 있다. 그리고 미중간 무역마찰이 있고 예상보다 실적이 나쁜 기술주에 대한 우려가 있다”고 말했다.
