Lafca awards ‘Burning’ and Yeun

The Los Angeles Film Critics Association (Lafca) named Steven Yeun as Best Supporting Actor for his role in Korean auteur Lee Chang-dong’s mystery drama “Burning.”

Co-starring Yoo Ah-in and rookie actor Jeon Jong-seo, the movie is based off a short story by Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami. Yeun, known for the popular zombie drama “The Walking Dead,” played a mysterious, upper-class playboy named Ben, whose enigmatic smile belies his disquieting nature.

“Burning” also won the Best Foreign Language Film at the Lafca, together with Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Palme d’Or-winning “Shoplifters,” about a family living in a poverty-stricken corner of Tokyo.

“Burning” had its premiere in May at the Cannes Film Festival. It received the Fipresci Prize, awarded by film critics, and also the Vulcan Award of the Technical Artist.
