JYP to launch girl group in Japan
JYP Entertainment will launch a new girl group in Japan, joining forces with Japan’s Sony Music. On Tuesday, the agency announced its head, Park Jin-young, will meet with Japanese press on Feb. 7, to give a presentation on the two companies’ new project.
The project, entitled “Girls Group Project,” was first mentioned in July during a lecture Park gave at the “2018 Macquarie Emerging Industries Summit” held at Seoul’s Coex, southern Seoul.
In the lecture, Park explained JYP Entertainment’s goal was to create a group of all-Japanese members, “like a Japanese version of girl group Twice,” according to Park.
The agency will officially initiate the project this summer in Japan, with a series of auditions to be held in the country.
The project comes as an effort for the agency to achieve their vision of “Globalization by Localization.”
In September, JYP Entertainment launched a six-member boy band in China named Boy Story, also as a part of the globalization project.
