Lee Jae-yong, vice chairman of Samsung Electronics, has met with United Arab Emirates (UAE) Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss ways to cooperate in the technology sector, official reports said Tuesday.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi posted a photo of his meeting with Lee in Dubai, where the World Government Summit 2019 is underway, on his Twitter account early Tuesday, Seoul time.

More than 4,000 global leaders, including heads of state, ministers and business leaders, gathered for the annual summit in Dubai to discuss future trends and issues.

Samsung confirmed their meeting in Dubai, but said Lee didn’t attend the summit held from Feb. 10-12.

UAE media reported Lee and the crown prince shared opinions on how to expand cooperation in IT and 5G technology.

Lee’s visit to the UAE came while Samsung is seeking ways to expand its foothold in the Middle Eastern market to woo deep-pocketed customers amid flagging demand for premium smartphones.

Last month, Samsung opened a new multi-experience store at the Dubai Mall, displaying the full suite of its connected devices and other gadgets in the showroom.

During his visit to Abu Dhabi in early 2018, President Moon Jae-in met with Crown Prince to discuss ways to upgrade bilateral relations in such areas as energy, technology and culture.
