Hyundai Steel worker dies at infamous Dangjin factory

A worker was found dead Wednesday afternoon in a Hyundai Steel plant in Dangjin, South Chungcheong.
The worker died at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday after being caught up in a coal conveyor belt. The employee, who was in his 50s, was performing maintenance on a conveyor belt used to transport iron ore when the accident occurred, according to the police and fire stations. He was reportedly working alone at the time of the accident.
Hyundai Steel apologized for the incident on Thursday.
“We send deep condolences to the victim and his family,” the company wrote in a statement. “We will actively cooperate with related institutions in the investigation and promise to prioritize safety inspections and devise plans to prevent accidents like this happening again.”
