Posco is working to promote its management philosophy of “Corporate Citizens Developed Together” in order to promote corporate citizenship among the steelmaker’s employees.

On Feb. 14 and 21, following Chairman Choi Jeong-Woo’s inauguration, external experts were invited to speak at the PIUM and Posco Insight Forum lectures for group executives and leaders to raise awareness of corporate citizenship among the group’s leadership. Choi also participated on Feb. 21.

Posco plans to alter its employees’ mindsets through special lectures on corporate citizenship on a quarterly basis.

Professor Cho Joon-mo of Sungkyunkwan University, who gave two lectures under the banner “Corporate Citizen,” provided a specific explanation about the meaning of corporate citizenship from an economic perspective. Cho also discussed the successful example of Posco’s “corporate citizen” management philosophy.

In the lecture, Cho emphasized that activities that contribute to creating a “good balance” between business and society from an economic perspective are examples of good corporate citizenship. These management activities lead to positive social outcomes beyond the creation of economic value.

Cho proposed three successful conditions to ensure that Posco is a corporate citizen that develops together with peoples’ activities.
The first is corporate citizenship with the local community. Cho explained that “Love Letter” activities, which gather opinions directly from stakeholders and improve problems, are a good example of corporate citizenship activities with local communities.

Second, Cho argued that corporate citizenship activities are not individual activities that are promoted separately but are naturally integrated into all management activities such as business performance and decision making. Corporate citizenship activities must be internalized throughout management by harmonizing the corporate citizenship ideology when conducting business.

Finally, he encouraged employees to create a culture that enables them to participate in corporate citizenship activities voluntarily and creatively.

Posco Kid’s concert returns

On Feb. 23, Posco hosted the Posco Kid’s Concert at the Posco Center in southern Seoul, the latest in a string of events under its current management philosophy “Corporate Citizen Developed Together.”
