‘Avengers’ flies by 8 million tickets

“Avengers: Endgame” topped 8 million tickets sold on Wednesday, just eight days after its release in Korea, the film’s distributor announced.

The latest Marvel superhero flick recorded a cumulative of 8,005,322 tickets sold as of 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, the Walt Disney Company Korea said based on a real-time box-office tally from the Korean Film Council.

The film passed the threshold faster than the 10 days it took for “Roaring Currents” (2014) and “Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds” (2017), the most and third most-viewed films of all time in the country, according to the distributor.

It took 12 days for “Along With the Gods: The Last 49 Days” (2018), the sequel to the 2017 Korean fantasy action, and 13 days for “Extreme Job” (2019) to reach the same milestone. The latter is the second most-viewed film of all time in Korea.

On Tuesday, “Endgame” was being shown at 80.2 percent of the screens and sold 84.5 percent of all seats available at cinemas across the country.

The epic finale to the superhero studio’s decade-long film series depicts the battle between the Avengers’ surviving superheroes, who became Earth’s last hope after the end of “Avengers: Infinity War,” and supervillain Thanos.’
