GMU Korea will open a security policy center

George Mason University Korea (GMU Korea) will open a security policy studies center next Monday on its campus in Songdo, Incheon, to conduct in-depth research on national defense and security issues, with a focus on the United States and Asia.

The Center for Security Policy Studies-Korea (CSPS-Korea) will be led by Kwon So-young, an assistant professor of government at GMU Korea, the school said in a press release. Prior to joining GMU Korea, Kwon was a research associate fellow at University of Cambridge’s East Asia Institute and a Shorenstein fellow at Stanford University’s Asia Pacific Research Center. CSPS-Korea will act as a local branch of the Center for Security Policy Studies (CSPS), which is located in Arlington, Virginia. Together they will hold joint symposiums on international security issues.

On May 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the CSPS and CSPS-Korea are planning to co-host the 2019 CSPS-Korea Symposium on International Security: Environmental Challenges & Solutions at GMU Korea. Ellen Laipson, director of CSPS, is expected to deliver a speech on climate change as it relates to security and environmental policymaking. More information is available from CSPS-Korea, which can be reached by phone at 032-626-5153.
