Akdong Musician’s Lee discharged

Lee Chan-hyuk, the creative half of duo Akdong Musician has been discharged from his mandatory military service as a member of the Marine Corps on Wednesday morning.

“It feels both nice and empty that I’ve finished,” Lee told press in front of the camp’s gates in Pohang, North Gyeongsang.

“It feels like I’m leaving a house that I used to live in for a year and nine months. I didn’t get to sleep until 3 o’clock in the morning because I was so nervous. It really still feels surreal to me,” he said.

Lee volunteered to become a member of the Marine Corps and began his service in September 2017. He was known to have used his musical creativity to write a military song in April this year.

He wrote a song for a competition held to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Republic of Korea Marine Corps this year, open to all soldiers across the country. Lee’s was chosen and entered as an official song.

“It was such a meaningful time that allowed me to experience new things and meet wonderful people,” said Lee.

“There are so many things that I’d like to do right now, even into the far future. But first, I’m going to go on a trip and then work on an album.”

Lee and his younger sister, Lee Su-hyun, made their name through SBS audition program “K-pop Star 2” and joined YG Entertainment in 2014.

The duo is known for being the only blood-related sibling singing duo. While the older Lee is in charge of writing songs, the younger Lee is known for her unique voice.
