‘The Lion King’ roars on debut day

Disney’s live-action film “The Lion King” drew more than 300,000 people to theaters on Wednesday, its first day of release, according to the Korean Film Council.

The film easily surpassed the first day sales of other successful Disney musical or remakes at the local box office, including “Frozen,” which sold 160,000 tickets, “Beauty and the Beast,” which sold 167,000 tickets, and “Aladdin,” which garnered 72,000 moviegoers.

As of Thursday afternoon, the film took up 63.7 percent of the total reservation rate at domestic movie theaters. Already over 355,000 people have reserved their tickets to see the film, and it seems the film will be holding on to its top spot in the box office for a while.

“Spider-Man: Far From Home” fell to second place at the box office on Wednesday, attracting 76,000 audiences for the day.
