Second 1,000-meter gold for Hwang in as many weeks

Hwang Dae-heon won another gold for the men’s 1,000-meter race at the International Skating Union (ISU) World Cup Short Track, this time in Montreal on Saturday.

By clocking 1 minute and 26.553 seconds, Hwang won the race, finishing 0.186 seconds ahead of silver medalist Steven Dubois of Canada. With the win, Hwang took gold in the 1,000-meter race for the second time this season. During the first leg of the World Cup in Salt Lake City last weekend, Hwang picked up two golds - in the men’s 500-meter and 1,000-meter races.

Along with Hwang, Park Ji-won also added another gold for Team Korea, as he won the men’s 1,500-meter race at 2 minutes and 26.025 seconds. In this race, Lee June-seo won a bronze by clocking 2 minutes and 26.546 seconds.

In women’s, Kim Ji-yoo won gold in the 1,500-meter race by finishing at 2 minutes and 36.255 seconds. Noh Do-hee finished second, at 2 minutes and 37.465 seconds.

Team Korea won bronze in the mixed 2,000-meter relay race.

The second leg of the ISU World Cup Short Track will be completed today. After this, they will be given about a two-week break and continue the series, starting on Nov. 29. The third leg of the ISU World Cup will be held in Nagoya, Japan.
