K-water assists the Mekong region
On the same day, the Mekong Water Data Initiative meeting, with around 100 experts from National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA, and the United States Army Corps of Engineers, or Usace, was held as well.
The research cooperation for Korea-Mekong water management aims to lessen the damage from drought and flooding and to provide help with the technological elements of water management.
From Nov. 24 to 29, a special meeting was held to educate engineers and government officials hailing from the five countries on how to manage water more efficiently.
On Nov. 29, a cooperation research center opened up at the K-water Institute in Daejeon to focus solely on the Mekong region.
With the opening of a dedicated cooperation research center, there will be actual exchanges among the researchers from all of the countries involved, as they will be able to collaborate on projects focused on solving water-related problems.
“By strengthening the ties between Korea and Mekong region, we can be of great help in managing the area’s water problems. By constantly supporting each other to prevent disasters, we hope to see positive outcomes from the countries in the Mekong region,” said Lee Hak-soo, CEO of K-water.
