The "98 Kyongju World Culture EXPO

The '98 Kyongju World Culture EXPO will be held at Pomum Lake Resort Complex in Kyongju, Kyongsangbuk-Do from September 11 to November 10. This Culture EXPO, which will be held bi-annually, will open not only the era of a new renaissance, but also play a crucial role in establishing Kyongju, the ancient capital city of the Shilla Kingdom, as the center of world culture, said the EXPO organizing committee.
Kyongju was the capital of Silla Kingdom (57 BC ~ 935 AD) for almost one thousand years. The '98 Kyongju World Culture EXPO is the first culture exposition in the world. Cultural assets, artifacts, folk dances, folk plays, folk customs and foods of many countries will gather here for the visitors to see and experience.
The theme of this Culture EXPO is 'The New Millennium Smile' and the sub-theme is 'Inheritance- Harmony- Creation'. The theme symbolizes the cultural harmony we hope to achieve in the 21st century, based on the cultural achievement of humanity up to the 20th century.
The purpose of this EXPO is to offer an educational experience for young people, as well as the adults, by gathering the cultures of the world and Kyongju in one place. It will be an exciting for people from all over the world to see the cultural assets and artifacts of their own culture in the midst of those of other cultures and to figure out the cultural correlations among them.
