Leno joke offends Korean politician
Kim Jong-pil, president of the United Liberal Democrats, said Monday that the party had sent an official letter of protest to the U.S.-based National Broadcasting Corporation over recent remarks by "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno. The American comedian said that Kim Dong-sung, who was disqualified after finishing first in Olympic 1,500-meter speed skating, must have kicked a dog in frustration, then eaten it.
Many Koreans, including the United Liberal Democrats' leader, found Mr. Leno's joke tasteless and degrading.
"It is repulsive to talk about another country in such a foul manner," Mr. Kim told reporters. "It would not be proper to let such a man without the least common decency continue to host a TV program."
