Joint May Day events set by labor groups

Labor organizations of the two Koreas will hold a joint May Day event in Pyeongyang.
South Korea’s two umbrella labor unions ― the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the Federation of Korean Trade Unions ― said yesterday that they had met with North Korea’s General Federation of Trade Unions in Pyeongyang and that they had agreed to the schedule of the May Day event.
A 6.15-kilometer (3.8 miles) run will be held. The distance was chosen to symbolize the date on which the inter-Korean summit declaration was adopted, June 15, 2000.
In addition to the May Day celebration on May 1, an inter-Korean soccer friendly match was planned to be held in Seoul.
A group of 27 South Korean labor union representatives visited North Korea last week.
