Pyeongyang cuisine: Forget about famine
Three foreign aid workers have compiled a small guide to restaurants in Pyeongyang, capital city of North Korea, the Associated Press reported yesterday.“Eating Out in Pyeongyang” lists more than 50 places where foreigners and some privileged North Koreans can dine on a variety of Western and Asian dishes.
The guide was not formally published, but distributed by the three authors to hundreds of their friends and colleagues. The authors, including Robert Christen, a Peruvian who worked in Pyeongyang for five years with the United Nations Development Program, have all since left the country.
The authors said food shortage was not noticeable in the North Korean capital and elite North Koreans were well fed. A lot of middle class people also were dining out, they noted.
