LG Telecom to open music kiosks in theaters

LG Telecom Co., Korea’s third-largest cell phone service provider, said yesterday that it will begin operating multimedia kiosks today that will allow users to download music and watch music video clips in the nation’s megaplex theaters. By reaching an agreement with CJ CGV, Korea’s largest multiplex cinema chain, and theater franchises Lotte Cinema and Cinus, LG Telecom will set up Music On kiosks, named after its music streaming service, in multiplex theaters. Moviegoers and music fans alike will pay 500 won (48 cents) to download a song, 300 won to watch a music video and 200 won to listen to a track. LG Telecom said the kiosks will serve the dual purpose of promoting the Music On service and catering to technology-savvy consumers’ desire for convenient access to music. The company added it hopes to install kiosks in fast food chains and coffee shops to reach out to more consumers.
