P2P sites to watch for pornography

Aug 01,2007
In line with an announcement made on Monday, the Information Ministry said yesterday that it will include peer-to-peer, or P2P, free file-trading sites on its list of sites that must take responsibility for pornographic content. Until now, these sites were not responsible for content that was traded through their services.
Like major Internet portal sites, P2P sites will be under the surveillance of a 24-hour ethics committee and be subject to a reporting system, such as the 1377 hotline for people to report illegal Web content.
P2P sites will also be included in the list of entities on a so-called “hotline” that is connected to the government and the National Police Agency. When they receive a call, the sites must respond quickly to stop the spread of inappropriate content.
They will also be responsible for building a history of what kind of files users send each other. How many days the history must cover has not been decided. In order to prevent circulation of files that contain adult content, filtering technologies and adult authorization, warnings on certain keywords and other measures must be taken.
The ministry will especially monitor P2P sites during summer and winter vacation seasons when more young users are using the Internet.
