Game will sound like real combat

Game developer Nexon is hoping to make an ear-splitting debut on the first-person shooting game scene with its upcoming title “Combat Arms-Operation: Black Storm.”
To capture the reality of a military campaign in the desert (inspired by Operation Desert Storm) the company has been working with Hollywood sound specialists in the United States to ensure its game has “real” gun sounds.
The real gun shot sound will be introduced to game testers tomorrow, when the company begins its second closed round of tests for 3,000 designated testers.
“In a first-person shooting game, the sound of the gunshot is an important factor that boosts realism,” said Lim Jun-hyuk, who is head of development at Combat Arms. “We’re spending a lot of time and effort to weave the sounds into the game in a natural manner. “
He noted that the sound staff for the game were professionals who have worked on Hollywood blockbusters such as “Mission Impossible” and “Black Hawk Down.” Nexon staff visited Bakersfield, California with Hollywood sound specialists last December to record the actual sounds.
The sounds have been put through an editing process with a sound director and the development team.
Combat Arms is expected to put Nexon on the board in terms of first person shooting games. Until now, Sudden Attack and Special Force have dominated the online first-person shooting game market. Sudden Attack is provided by CJ Internet and Special Force is serviced by Neowiz.

Nexon has also announced that it will develop an online version of Counter Strike, the godfather of all first person shooting games, involving a special unit that has to take down terrorists. The announcement, made in late July, caused a ripple in the game industry.
Nexon signed a licensing contract with Valve Corporation, a U.S. software developer, and will develop the online version of Counter Strike. Valve is the game company behind the first-person shooting game “Half Life,” “Half Life 2,” and “Day of Defeat.” Nexon will also have the rights to the game in four Asian countries including Korea and Japan.
Although StarCraft is the dominant game in Korea’s e-sports scene, first-person shooting games such as Counter Strike are becoming more popular. The game is an official e-sports category in Korea and is more popular abroad ― especially among Europeans. Since an independently packaged version of the game was released in 2000, more than 9 million copies of Counter Strike have been sold globally.
Although Counter Strike Online will mainly keep the features of the original game, some additional modes will be added. Nexon has not yet revealed its detailed plans but said that the schedule for development and service will be announced later in October this year at the Gstar game festival in Korea.
