Volleyball tourney helps needy
If your interest is piqued, PLUR, an expat volunteer group, is looking for you. PLUR, which stands for Peace Love Unity Respect, will hold a charity volleyball tournament this Sunday afternoon. The tournament, to be held at Itaewon Elementary School close to Noksapyeong subway station (line No. 6), aims to help needy children here and abroad, according to Daniel Oh, a Korean-American leading the group.
In Korea, a donation from the proceeds will be given to Hyang-Ae Orphanage (wwww.orphanhome.org), located in Eumseong County in North Chungcheong Province, he said. The orphanage houses around 100 children aged 3 to 18. It is one of the regular volunteer destinations for PLUR. The group has made monthly visits to the orphanage since last October, where they have spent time with children and taught them arts and crafts. Oh said part of the proceeds will be given to children in Myanmar and China who are recovering from natural disasters.
The registration fee, most of which will be donated, is 15,000 won ($14.70). The event will begin at 5 p.m. For more information, find the group on Facebook, or contact Oh at oh_daniel21@hotmail.com, or (010) 4623-7180.
