Railway to the future
President Lee Myung-bak attends the groundbreaking ceremony of the Honam Line of the KTX bullet train yesterday. At the event, which took place at Songjeong Station in Gwangju, Lee said the rail project and the state-run program to restore the Yeongsan River will help revive the economies of the Jeolla region and pave the way for the future. “The Honam Line will contribute to the success of ambitious plans, which include developing the region as the hub of global logistics,” Lee said. He also added that the railway project is part of Korea’s efforts for low-carbon transportation. The project to build the high-speed railway line between Seoul and Mokpo will cost nearly 11.3 trillion won ($9.8 billion) and is scheduled to be completed in 2014. [NEWSIS]
