If you’re looking for a ticket to Jeju, leave late

With vacation season in full swing, it is practically impossible to purchase a last-minute ticket to Jeju Island as demand always exceeds supply. Still, though travel agents might be sold out, there are solutions.

Jeju Air, one of the nation’s low-cost air carriers, shared some tips yesterday on reserving flights from Seoul to Jeju during this peak season.

According to data it compiled based on reservation patterns for the months of July and August over the past three years, Jeju Air said it is best to look for flights between July 28 and Aug. 8, departing Seoul after 3 p.m. and departing Jeju before noon. For these flights, the occupancy rate is still relatively low at 30 percent.

“Avoid looking for flights departing Seoul before noon and leaving Jeju after 3 p.m.,” said an official at Jeju Air.

The official said that the occupancy rate is highest from July 28 to Aug. 8 for those flights.

This year, flight reservations from July 28 to Aug. 5 for Jeju Air flights during those time periods have been already booked.

Meanwhile, with growing demand for flights from Seoul to Jeju, the total number of seats on flights plying the route has increased 13.4 percent from an average of 445,500 seats per day last year to 51,600 seats, according to the airline.
