Seoul extends G-20 invites

Korea will invite five nonmembers of the Group of 20 to the upcoming summit in Seoul as part of its effort to reflect more diverse economic perspectives, the local summit organizing committee said yesterday.

The committee said Vietnam, Singapore, Malawi, Ethiopia and Spain have been invited to take part in the gathering of world leaders on Nov. 11 and 12.

It said the invitations have been issued in consultation with the so-called Sherpa group that is tasked with setting agendas and making preparations for the summit.

In addition to the five countries, the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the Financial Stability Board and four other global organizations have been invited.
