Requests for Google user data soar in first half

Sept 27,2010
Korea’s government filed 170 requests with Google Inc. for personal user information and 38 requests for content removal in the first half of this year, according to the global Internet search engine’s latest data. The Seoul government’s requests for user data surged four-fold over the second half of 2009, though its requests for content removal decreased by about half, the data showed. By contrast, Japan filed only 56 personal data requests and seven content deletion requests in the January-June period of this year, indicating a comparative rise in Internet censorship in Korea.
