Hyun Bin to join Marine Corps

Actor Hyun Bin, who has become popular thanks to his role on the SBS drama “Secret Garden,” surprised his fans by voluntarily joining the Marine Corps.

“Hyun Bin interviewed for a position in the Marine Corps on Dec. 24,” his management company AM Entertainment said yesterday in a press release. After receiving the results of his interview on Thursday, he could begin service in March, the release said. AM Entertainment said the decision to join the Marines was Hyun’s, though the Marine Corps had encouraged him to join because of his image as a righteous person.

Hyun said he is “proud to serve [his] country.”

작년 12월 신검 … 합격 땐 3월 입대

군 입대를 앞둔 배우 현빈(29)이 해병대에 지원한 사실이 뒤늦게 알려졌다.

현빈의 소속사 AM엔터테인먼트는 12일 “현빈이 지난해 12월 해병대에 지원했고, SBS 드라마 ‘시크릿 가든’ 촬영 도중 수원병무청에서 신체검사와 면접을 치렀다”고 밝혔다.

현빈은 다음 달 해병대 합격자 발표에서 합격할 경우 3월에 입대하게 된다. AM엔터테인먼트 측은 “ 평소 해병대에 대해 좋은 인상을 갖고 있어 자원입대를 결정했다”며 “어려서부터 남성적인 것에 대한 동경이 있어 육사에 가려고도 했었다”고 전했다. 그가 출연 중인 인기 드라마 ‘시크릿 가든’은 16일 종영된다.
