Nov 09,2012
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Public Administration announced that Hangul Proclamation Day will be re-designated as a national holiday from next year, the first time since it was excluded from designation as a national holiday in 1990, if the agenda is approved during the cabinet meeting on Dec. 18.

If the plan is approved, Koreans will have 15 legal holidays from next year. Hangul Proclamation Day occurs on Oct. 9. After the plan was announced by the ministry, October of 2017 attracted Korea’s attention on Internet. Because Sept. 30 is on a Saturday and the three-day Chuseok holiday season comes on Oct. 3 (Tuesday), people can take about a weeklong vacation if they take a day off on Oct. 1.

If they want more vacation, they can expand it until Oct. 9 (Monday) if they take another day off on Oct. 6 (Friday).
