Contestants in the fifth English Speaking Union’s Korea Public Speaking Competition, organized by the British Embassy in Seoul, the JoongAng Ilbo and the Korea JoongAng Daily, and sponsored by HSBC Korea, pose yesterday at Yonsei University’s Widang Hall in Sinchon, central Seoul. Around 1,000 students from elementary, middle and high schools participated in the contest, and 18 made it to the final round. Winners from the three age groups are Choi Yu-jin from Seoul Daedo Elementary School (third from left in the front row); Noh Shin-young from Cheongshim International Academy (second from left); and Park Jae-hyun from the Korea International School (far left). In the back row are Jenny Hong, senior media officer at the British Embassy, Matthew Deakin, HSBC Korea president and CEO, and Choo Oun-joo, head of the JoongAng Ilbo Education.
