‘Grandpas’ a hit overseas

Korea’s veteran actors are becoming the talk of the town in towns overseas.

TvN’s “Grandpas Over Flowers,” one of the biggest surprise hits of the year, is finding plenty of interest in other countries around Asia, with export deals signed to channels in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

“The show has been sold to Taiwan’s largest cable channel EBC and Hong Kong’s largest private broadcaster TVB, and such news came after only three episodes were aired,” said CJ E&M’s global content team. “It is rare to sell a program before it actually completes its run.”

The second season of “Grandpas,” which is airing now, features the septuagenarians traveling to Taiwan.

“It is really surprising that the grandfathers have become a leading force in Hallyu,” a CJ official said.
