Koo Ja-cheol aiming for spot on new club

Midfielder Koo Ja-cheol of Vfl Wolfsburg has officially stated his intention to find a new club in the upcoming winter transfer window, the German football media outlet Kicker reported on Tuesday. It said that Koo said he wants to have more playing time because he wants to be perfectly ready for the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

The Kicker said there are teams willing to acquire Koo, including FSV Mainz 05, which has been trying consistently to land the 24-year-old midfielder. The Wolfsburg rejected the Mainz’s offer in the summer transfer window.

Koo started eight games before he was injured in October, but the team’s record in those eight games was 3-4 with a draw. The Wolfsburg went 6-1 with two draws in its next nine games without Koo.

The Mainz have been trying to acquire Koo since January. Sources said Koo also doesn’t like himself being utilized as a defensive midfielder.
