Actress Shim Eun-kyung, of recent box-office hit “Miss Granny,” and Jung Jin-young, of boy band B1A4, hosted a free hug event at Times Square Plaza in Yeongdeungpo District, western Seoul, yesterday.
“It is my first time to attend an event like this and I am very nervous, but at the same time happy,” said Shim prior to the event.
The event was held to keep a promise Shim made at the press screening of “Miss Granny” on Jan. 6. The actress said she would host a free hug event with Jung if the movie’s admission surpassed 5 million.
The event was supposed to start at 1 p.m., admitting only 200 people by order of arrival. But the plaza was already filled with about 1,000 fans at around 10 p.m. and, by the time of the start, more than 2,000 fans had gathered at the venue.
“Miss Granny,” which is still playing at theaters, has had more than 6 million viewers as of Wednesday.
