Jang Bum-joon

Vocalist Jang Bum-joon, the founder and lead singer of indie band Busker Busker, will debut as a solo artist, according to local reports yesterday.

Multiple industry insiders said yesterday that Jang has signed a contract with CJ E&M to distribute his new album, which is set to be released in September.

“Whether Jang is going to debut as a solo artist or appear with other musicians is unknown,” said one of the insiders. “However, at this point it can be said that Busker Busker is in fact disbanded. The group’s other members - Brad Moore and Kim Hyung-tae - are also pursuing individual careers.”

Busker Busker, which was the runner-up of Mnet’s survival show “Super Star K3” in 2011, has generated a handful of megahits such as “Cherry Blossom Ending” and “Yeosu Night Sea,” which won the public’s hearts for its candid yet lovely lyrics, which were written by the band.
